Where To Ask Legal Questions For Free

July 20 2018 , Written by Hajira Rahaman

Did any courses prove particularly useful as you began practicing?

As you know, law schools receive a lot of criticism for failing to prepare lawyers for law clinic, and there are many opportunities for improvement. Having said that, most law schools provide a wide variety of courses, from theoretical to technical, which will prove invaluable when pupils start practicing.

What do you like most about your project? Least?

Immigration is one of the most political areas of law and it is always changing, which keeps my practice interesting.

Can you see a bias against individuals who attend law school later in life?

Being a attorney is not just about studying the law and problem solving. It is about understanding clients' goals, both personally and within a business. From there, lawyers can develop strategies for addressing those goals, through a proper analysis, but always keeping in mind the customers' prices and business and/or plans that are personal. In short, implementing and knowing the law, while important to the success of any lawyer, is just one element of what a lawyer does. And, candidly, attorneys who have experience in maturity concerning life courses, prior expertise, or the work force are more armed to grasp the larger picture of what it's to be a lawyer.

what's the best way to get work?

To land your first job out of law school, you have to first decide which kind of job you hope to secure. If your plan is to attach one of the AmLaw 100 companies or work in the public sector, the ideal plan is to take part in your law school's on-campus interview plan, which literally brings law companies and government entities directly to your door and make it possible for you to find out about and apply for a variety of opportunities. Check with your college to determine which companies and public-sector agencies participate in the program.

Was there anything you wished you would have done differently in law school that you did not realize before you started to practice?

I went into law school about five years after I graduated from school, so I had been out in the workforce for some time. I had a fulltime job at a health insurance company and went to law school. There are a couple of things, and two or three things I wish I'd done differently.
